Here’s Our Story
Our business was started as a way to provide an opportunity for our family. In 2018 we had a family member experiencing early mandatory retirement and planning to go work for a garden center until retirement. We said, ‘Why not start a garden center ourselves?’ Thus, Backyard Oasis was born, a local garden center and anything for your backyard. We started out selling plants and shrubs and various garden equipment. We had a friend suggest that our location would be great for a shed mega-lot and so we added wooden sheds to inventory as well. We did that for a few months and then began to explore other structures to meet our customers' needs.
Garage and Shed Supply was born out of a need in the market to provide excellent customer service to our customers seeking metal structures. Since those early days, we have expanded to provide metal structures of all types to our customers across 21 states. From a mom-and-pop company, we have built our team and have multiple Building Specialists available to serve you. Our team has an extensive background in customer service and brings this skill to you with every interaction. We take pride in making this an easy and enjoyable experience for you. Our mission is to provide quality products and customer service to our customers.

Taylor + Linette Alvis
We have been married for 15 years and have known each other since they were toddlers! While this is our greatest project, we have worked together on many more, including restaurants, catering, aerial imaging, event venue management, and more! We find fun challenges in the daily work of business ownership and believe that you should do what you love and enjoy doing it!
Taylor is the founder of Garage and Shed Supply and has a great love for people and interacting with customers to find solutions for their project needs. He works directly with clients and the Garage and Shed Supply team to ensure the best customer service, communication and quality are provided.
Taylor is an instrument rated pilot and enjoys flying his Piper Saratoga to new destinations. Taylor has over 20 years of customer service and problem-solving experience. As an entrepreneur, Taylor has founded several successful businesses and is always looking for innovative business solutions. His passion for people is seen in his 15-year experience as an EMT/Firefighter serving his community. Taylor enjoys staying active and cooking for friends and family while exploring all the new opportunities life brings.
The secret sauce for Garage and Shed Supply is our dedicated team. Taylor enjoys growing the GSS team while ensuring quality and service are always our top priority.

Linette alvis | owner, quality & process improvement
Linette is a nurse by training and has spent over 10 years caring for ICU patients. She most recently transitioned into quality and process improvement work within the healthcare setting and continues that work at Garage and Shed Supply.
In her free time, Linette enjoys spending time with her golden doodle puppies, Bene and Cooper; they’re the sweetest, happiest dogs and the essence of pure love. Linette is committed to living a healthy, balanced life and enjoys practicing yoga on a daily basis. She also enjoys traveling to see friends and explore new places and find new parts of the world to retreat.
Linette brings her experience of processes and systems to Garage and Shed Supply to ensure that the business runs smoothly and efficiently. She is always looking for a way to make the employee and customer experience a great one!

Alex Smith | building specialist
Alex was born and raised in North Carolina, attended Appalachian State University and obtained a Culinary Arts degree. He has over 20 years of restaurant experience and loves to use his skills to create new dishes for his friends and family.
Alex loves being outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, or attending a concert. He has been married to his wife, Sharon, for over 10 years! He is a huge sports fan and enjoys watching football, basketball, or a NASCAR race!
Alex has been with Garage and Shed Supply since its creation in 2018 and is an expert Building Specialist. He pays attention to details and makes sure to get you exactly what you are looking for!
Steve oreck | building specialist
Steve has a long history of service both to his country and his community as a former Sergeant in the US Marine Corp and Firefighter/EMT. He continues to support and serve others by supporting his church and local charities.
Steve is married to his wife, Christy, and they have 3 girls and 4 grandchildren! He stays busy with his two English Mastiffs and spending time in the outdoors with his family.
Steve has an extensive background in customer relations as a real estate broker for over 15 years and over 30 years in sales. He is a kind and friendly guide through the process of building the project of your dreams!
randy bates | building specialist
Randy has had a very diverse career over the years including construction, quality control, marketing and sales, company ownership, and several unique roles at the Department of Energy.
Randy is married to his wife, Jeanna, and they have 5 children, 17 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild! He is the Pastor of Grace Fellowship in Huntsville, TN and has been in ministry for over 40 years! He loves spending time with his family and friends and enjoys the outdoors including golfing and motorcycle and ATV riding in the mountains. One of Randy’s biggest passions is to study and do research. He loves to learn, to grow, to change for the better and is always seeking to make a difference!
Randy’s construction background is a great asset in providing our customers with information to help them make informed decisions about their building design. His communication skills and love for people make him an asset to our team and in helping our customers find the right building that meets their needs!
Chris Laughorn | building Specialist
Chris has lived in the South Boston/Danville, VA area his entire life, but has had the opportunity to travel across the eastern half of the U.S. visiting over 30 states. He has a long career focused on sales, logistics and management.
Chris has been married to his wife, Leigh, for over 35 years. They have two daughters, Christen and Madison, Son-in-Law Dietr, and Stephen, a family friend that has become a son to them. Chris’ favorite pastime is spending time with his family. He also enjoys fishing, golf and watching football and racing. Another passion of his is cooking, so much so that has been designated the ‘Family Chef’ for many years.
Chris’ experiences during his career have always been focused on customer service. He aims to make the buying process as easy as possible for the customer and treat everyone in the manner that he would expect for himself. Chris’ background makes him a great resource to work with on your building project!
Henry Benedict & Cooper James | mascots
Bene and Cooper are the owners’ Golden Doodles and the company mascots! They can be found around the office welcoming customers when they are not hard at work chasing a ball. They are the friendliest furballs you’ve ever met so feel free to introduce yourself and go in for a slobbery kiss if you are up for it!
